Laryngeal
Mask - insertion technique
![](ML_img/CIMG0112.jpg)
![](ML_img/CIMG0115.jpg) |
Tightly deflate the cuff.
![](../../ML_p/ML/ML_img/gel.jpg) |
2)
Lubricate the posterior surface of the
laryngeal
mask (LM) with water-soluble lubricant. |
![](../../ML_p/ML/ML_img/segura_ML4.jpg) |
3) Hold the
LM like a pen, with
the index finger placed at the junction of the cuff and the tube. |
![](ML_img/CIMG0121.jpg) |
With the head extended and the neck
flexed, carefully flatten the
LM tip against the hard
palate.
![](ML_img/CIMG0125.jpg) |
Using continuos pressure, advance the LM into the hypopharynx until definite resistance is
felt.
![](ML_img/CIMG0126.jpg) |
Before removing the index finger, gently
press down the tube with the other hand.
This prevents the laryngeal
mask from being pulled out of place.

With the LM
tube free, inflate the cuff with an air volume just enough to obtain a seal
(to
a pressure of approximately 60 cm H2O)
Never overinflate the cuff.
